What the free edition leaves out

The free edition is genuinely usable, but some team or enterprise features need a paid plan. “Not confirmed” means the official pages we read did not say, so we do not guess.

Best for

Teams that want a self-hostable Zapier-style automation tool with a no-code builder and TypeScript-based integrations.

Why choose it over Zapier

The core is MIT licensed, which is OSI open source, and runs through Docker Compose. Integrations (pieces) are written in TypeScript, and the README says they are also available as MCP servers. The free tier on the pricing page includes up to 5 users.

Where it falls short

Self-hosting needs PostgreSQL and Redis rather than a single container. SSO, audit logs and custom roles are on paid plans, and the code for them sits under a separate commercial license in the same repository. API key access is described inconsistently between the pricing page and the API docs. No SLA terms were found.

Open-source alternative to

  • Zapier — Activepieces is a self-hostable app-to-app automation tool that can replace Zapier's workflows on your own infrastructure.
