Why choose it over Shopify
The core is MIT licensed and self-hosted, so you control the code and the data, and there is no platform subscription from the project. It is built on Laravel and Vue.js, so Laravel developers can extend it with packages. REST and GraphQL APIs are documented.
Where it falls short
You host, secure, back up and upgrade it yourself, and you need PHP and database skills. The project sells B2B, multi-vendor marketplace, multi-tenant and hosting products and lists 200+ extensions in its own marketplace; which of these cost money and what the core lacks was not checked. Payment, shipping and theme options compared with Shopify were not compared.
