What the free edition leaves out

We have not been able to confirm enough from official sources to give a verdict. “Not confirmed” means the official pages we read did not say, so we do not guess.

Best for

Teams that already use Sentry SDKs and want a smaller error tracker they can run on one server with PostgreSQL.

Why choose it over Sentry

The backend is MIT licensed. The README says it runs with as little as 512MB of RAM, stores error data in PostgreSQL, and that self-hosted installs never report home. Existing Sentry client SDKs work against it, so switching mostly means changing the DSN.

Where it falls short

The README describes it as a partial re-implementation of Sentry with a deliberately smaller feature set, so Sentry features beyond error tracking were not compared. The pricing page does not say what a self-hosted install includes or whether it has any paid-only parts. SAML, roles, audit logs and backup tooling were not found in the docs read. The primary repository is on GitLab, not GitHub.

Open-source alternative to

  • Sentry — GlitchTip accepts events from Sentry's client SDKs, so an app can send errors to GlitchTip by changing the DSN.
