What the free edition leaves out
The free edition covers the features teams usually need; we found nothing important held back. “Not confirmed” means the official pages we read did not say, so we do not guess.
| Feature | Free edition | Details | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| SSO / SAML | Not confirmed | Not mentioned in the pages read. | Source ↗ |
| Role-based access control | Not confirmed | User roles are not mentioned in the docs home page. | Source ↗ |
| Audit logs | Not confirmed | Not mentioned in the pages read. | – |
| Multi-user / teams | Not confirmed | Not covered in the pages read. The homepage mentions a Partner Mode for managing client sub-accounts. | Source ↗ |
| Backups and restore | Not confirmed | The installation requirements page does not mention backups. | Source ↗ |
| API access | Free | The homepage and docs describe an API for contacts and campaigns. The homepage says Keila has no proprietary premium features. | Source ↗ |
| Support SLA | Paid | The pricing page says paid help is available for setting up a self-hosted instance. No SLA terms were found. | Source ↗ |
Best for
Individuals and small organisations that want a simple newsletter tool they can self-host or buy as a flat-priced cloud service.
Why choose it over Mailchimp
AGPL-3.0 licensed, and the homepage says there are no proprietary premium features, so the self-hosted version is the same software as the cloud. Keila Cloud lists unlimited contacts on every plan, priced by emails per month, and you can send through your own SMTP, SES, Mailgun, Postmark or SendGrid account.
Where it falls short
It is a newsletter tool, not a full marketing automation suite. Automation workflows were not found on the pages read. Roles, SSO, audit logs and backup tooling are not documented on the pages read. Keila Cloud has no free plan. You manage PostgreSQL, upgrades and email deliverability yourself when self-hosting.
