NocoDB
Backend & DatabasesA no-code database interface that turns tables into spreadsheet-style views, forms and APIs, available as a self-hosted Community edition or as a hosted service.

What the free edition leaves out
Scroll sideways to view all columns →The free edition is genuinely usable, but some team or enterprise features need a paid plan. “Not confirmed” means the official pages we read did not say, so we do not guess.
| Feature | Free edition | Details | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| SSO / SAML | Paid | On the self-hosted side of the pricing page, SAML-based single sign-on is listed from the Business plan. The Community listing does not include it. | Source ↗ |
| Role-based access control | Free | The Community listing includes five roles: Owner, Creator, Editor, Commenter and Viewer. Table-level and field-level permissions are listed under the Business plan and row-level security under Scale. | Source ↗ |
| Audit logs | Paid | Audit logs are listed from the Scale plan on the self-hosted side of the pricing page, and the self-hosting docs name them among paid-plan features. | Source ↗ |
| Multi-user / teams | Free | The Community listing says unlimited seats. | Source ↗ |
| Backups and restore | Not confirmed | Backups are not described on the pages read. | Source ↗ |
| API access | Not confirmed | The docs describe REST data and meta APIs, but the pages read do not say whether they differ by edition for self-hosted installs. | Source ↗ |
| Support SLA | Paid | The Community listing offers community support only. Email support is listed from the Business plan and priority support under Enterprise. | Source ↗ |
Best for
Teams that want an Airtable-style interface over their own database and can accept a source-available license that restricts offering NocoDB as a paid or managed service.
Why choose it over Airtable
You can self-host it for your own organization with unlimited seats and records, and the pricing page lists all five roles and the six view types in the Community edition. The license lets you read and modify the source for internal use.
Where it falls short
It is no longer open source: since January 2026 the license is the Sustainable Use License, which is not OSI-approved and restricts offering NocoDB as a service. SAML single sign-on, audit logs, row-level security, field-level permissions and priority support are listed only on paid plans. The quickstart runs four containers, including Postgres and Redis.
Self-hostable alternative to
- Airtable — NocoDB's pricing page compares itself with Airtable and its site offers an Airtable import, so it can replace Airtable for teams that want to self-host.
