What the free edition leaves out

The free edition is genuinely usable, but some team or enterprise features need a paid plan. “Not confirmed” means the official pages we read did not say, so we do not guess.

Best for

Small and mid-sized companies that want one integrated set of business apps and are willing to host and maintain it themselves, or to pay for the Enterprise edition.

Why choose it over NetSuite

Odoo Community is LGPL-3.0 and covers CRM, sales, point of sale, inventory, manufacturing, purchase, website, eCommerce, project, HR basics and more, according to the Odoo editions table. You can start with a few apps and add more later.

Where it falls short

The editions table marks many apps as Enterprise only, including full accounting, Studio, Helpdesk, Planning, Field Service, IoT, Knowledge, Payroll, the mobile apps and marketing automation. Version upgrades, hosting and functional support are also listed as Enterprise only. In the Community edition you therefore get basic invoicing and expenses but not the full accounting app. You need to run PostgreSQL and handle updates yourself.

Open-source alternative to

  • NetSuite — Odoo covers sales, inventory, accounting and other business apps, which overlaps with NetSuite.
