What the free edition leaves out

The free edition is genuinely usable, but some team or enterprise features need a paid plan. “Not confirmed” means the official pages we read did not say, so we do not guess.

Best for

Organisations that want to run a basic HR system on their own server and can manage PHP and database hosting themselves.

Why choose it over Freshteam

The Starter edition is free and GPL-3.0 licensed, and you keep employee data on your own server. The pricing page lists HR administration, employee management, leave, reporting, performance, recruitment, time tracking and a mobile app in it. There is a public live demo.

Where it falls short

Several modules are listed only for the paid Advanced edition: onboarding, roster, request desk, career development, training, surveys and discipline. Audit trail and API access appear in the Advanced column and not clearly in Starter. Support for Starter is a community forum and help portal; service level agreements are tied to Advanced, which is priced per employee per month. The edition comparison uses unlabelled icons, so Starter entries are approximate. Which features each edition includes should be confirmed with OrangeHRM before relying on this entry.
