What the free edition leaves out

The free edition is genuinely usable, but some team or enterprise features need a paid plan. “Not confirmed” means the official pages we read did not state it, so we do not guess.

Best for

Site owners who want simple, cookieless, privacy-focused web analytics and are comfortable running Docker with ClickHouse.

Why choose it over Google Analytics

A simpler, lighter dashboard than Google Analytics, with the Community Edition under AGPL-3.0 so you control your data. The cloud service can import data from Google Analytics.

Where it falls short

The Community Edition lacks funnels, user journeys, ecommerce revenue goals, SSO, the Sites API and the Data Studio connector, per the official comparison. It is released about twice a year, has only basic bot filtering and no premium support. Self-hosting needs ClickHouse and Postgres, heavier than a single container.

Open-source alternative to

  • Google Analytics — Plausible is a privacy-focused, lightweight, self-hostable web analytics tool that replaces Google Analytics for basic traffic reporting.
