What the free edition leaves out

We have not been able to confirm enough from official sources to give a verdict. “Not confirmed” means the official pages we read did not say, so we do not guess.

Best for

Individuals and small teams who want self-hosted uptime checks, alerts and public status pages from one container.

Why choose it over UptimeRobot

MIT licensed and runs from one Docker container. The README lists checks for HTTP(s), TCP, keyword, JSON query, WebSocket, ping, DNS, push, Steam game servers and Docker containers, 20-second intervals, notifications through more than 90 services, multiple status pages mapped to your own domains, certificate info and 2FA.

Where it falls short

Backups and upgrades are yours to manage, and the data directory cannot sit on NFS. Because you host it yourself, the monitor goes down when your own infrastructure does, unless you run it on separate hardware.

Open-source alternative to

  • UptimeRobot — Uptime Kuma can replace a hosted uptime monitor by running HTTP, TCP, ping and DNS checks with alerts from your own server.
  • Statuspage — It can serve public status pages mapped to your own domains, which covers basic hosted status page use.
